When you have a link that you want included in the BEST of NV, please post it here.  This thread remains unlocked so that additions can be made at any time.  When posting with a link, please include:

     - Title of the Link
     - The link itself whether linked to an entire thread or an individual post within the thread
     - Which of the 8 topics/sections within the BEST of NV you think it best fits into

Once your candidate is moved into the BEST of NV post, a post will be added here.

Your contributions here will help keep the BEST of NV pinned thread up to date.  Thanks.

should go under new heading of DIY project examples. This is a long thread on DIY eyepiece using gen 1 cascade (ABC) tubes. Either EEV or Varo tubes

The historical aspect of this thread in regards to Night Vision Astronomy is also pretty cool. Pay attention to mention of amber filter over ocular in regards to scintillation noise.

Thanks to all those who worked hard on this nice initiative.

One small suggestion: if I understand correctly, that this is the place where the suggestions for inclusion in the pinned threads are presented, then I feel it would be helpful especially for new forum members to edit the intro to the "Best of NV candidates" as follows, for example (suggestions in bold font):

This is the starting point for finding comprehensive information about NV.  Each of the topics below link will bring you to sections containing links with detailed information.  Unless seeking answers to specific questions, it is best to start at the top and work your way through the various links that are all titled; most are also dated by the year the information was posted. All threads are locked, except for the “Best of NV candidates”, which is the place where proposals for inclusion in the locked threads can be presented.

If those more expert than me agree, this seems to be a very short and good explanation about EBI. Thanks to forum member Luis Serrano who originally posted it.

Maybe for the NV Introduction?

A wealth of NV videos from Carpe Nocturnum!

Hopefully I will find time this week to view them all.

The following links have been referred to CN Admin to be added to the locked threads (this may take a few days)

When in doubt about where these suggestions will go, I'll place them into the Miscellaneous section until we have enough (4-5) links about similar topics to start a new section.  I'm thinking that we already need a section specifically about NV Image Intensifier Tubes where some of these links might fit together in a more cohesive way... rather than trying to fit them into an existing section where they would be an outlier.

Dmala, your amendment to the opening paragraph in the BEST of NV thread was also forwarded for inclusion.

Thanks to each of you for the valuable contributions.

Thank you! I just used the Best of to learn a bit about 3x lenses, and other topics prior to that, so the whole thing is being put to use.

Ray,

I just checked and see that you have not added the filter thread that you and Longbond created.  I feel this is an absolute must add to the filter help thread.

This is about the entire NV optical train including both lenses and filters. I'm not sure whether lenses or filters is the best thread.

Thanks to GOLGO13 for assembling this.

How ‘bout it’s own thread, since it is about integrating all the different catagories of stuff?

Yes. A NV 101 on what you need for what.

"The Ultimate NV Kit in Pictures" has been submitted to be placed as the second link in the NV Introduction section.  It should appear in a day or two.  It does doesn't fit well into any of the other subsections, but is very appropriate in the Intro section as it provides a good visual explanation of components.

There has been a changing of the guard.  In the future, Golgo13 will monitor and take care of the BEST of NV thread.  I'm fine, just taking a break and doing some other things.  The BEST of NV is in good hands.  Thanks to all, but especially to Moshen, Jeff Morgan, Vondragonnoggin and Edggie for their research and help in creating the BEST thread.

Golgo13,

The recent release of the Trybe adapter will change the dynamics of NV purchasing, permitting the PVS-14 to be used in afocal or prime focus.  I recommend that Cnoct's thread about the adapter and Gavster's thread about Afocal vs Prime be added as the second and third thread under the NV and Lenses section in the BEST of NV.   Thanks

Another thread for the BEST of NV.  I think this one belongs in the "NV with Lenses" but it could also go in the "NV with Filters", but in either list, it belongs near the top of the index page.  With 47 replies and more than 2200 views, its relevance is obvious, especially as afocal has become so popular.

CN thread discussion: "What About AFOCAL..." by Longbond, an explanation of afocal usage, limitations and filtration with NV.

Best,
