Hi all

I’m looking for some help. I’ve tried various searches but the information is too scattered. I read one poster say he’d bought a couple of Tal plossls that were unmarked and looked like run of the mill Chinese stuff. I was unable to find any pics of these. Can anybody supply a pic of a standard unmarked 25mm plossl that they know for sure is a Tal? The reason I ask is that I’ve just come across (in my cupboard clear up) a 3x Tal barlow with a 25mm plossl sitting in it. The size is standard 1.25” so must be later Tal? I’m fairly certain that these items must have come with a previous Tal purchase and were just stuck in the cupboard and never used. The eyepiece outer coating colour is green. Is there any positive way of identifying this eyepiece one way or another? I’ll add a pic. Any info appreciated

Out of curiosity I just put this eyepiece in an el cheapo (Zennox 60x900) achromat and had a look at the moon (daytime UK). The clarity and resolution was apparently exceptional. I look forward to trying this in my cooled down Long Perng. Will update.

I had a 25mm TAL last year (new, old stock, original box) and hunted down some documents that might help with your search.

See if this helps with your id hunt.

Good luck with your search!

Mike

Thanks for that Mike! Although this PDF was in praise of their Super plossls, it was certainly of great interest. Did the one that you bought have any resemblance to mine?

Here you are, my TAL 25 Plossl that came with my TAL200K in 2001. Differences with your three pictures are purple instead of green coating and the letters on the eyepiece (e.g.the 'o').

Very many thanks for that Edwin! As you say, the differences are quite stark. I’d already noticed the umlaut, and additionally note that unusually the grip is in reverse, for want of a better expression. Your ‘grip’ has pyramidal depressions, and mine has the more common raised pyramidal shape. How decisive this all is I don’t know ‍♂

If those aren't Chinese-made Plossls, I would be very much surprised.
