After reading and watching Chas with his two orders of both the 120 and 150, I couldn’t sit around anymore wishing and wanting. And I got lucky yesterday with the dob finally selling.  So a year ago I ordered the skywatcher 100Ed always wishing it pulled in the extra light my 120 achro did, then whenever I used the achro always wished it was as clean as the 100Ed, I finally could pull the trigger. Will be perfect using  from the light dome of Detroit.

Congrats on the new refractor! You'll have to take it up to the UP. Or, you could settle and go to Lake Hudson Dark Sky Preserve. Light-years better than Detroit (or Toledo, where I grew up).

I received one a few weeks back and must admit that I have been surprised and how well it does. Wasn't expecting this at all. I feel very blessed to have it.

Peace...

Congrats!

The 120ED is a seriously fun scope. Outstanding on anything you point it at. Light weight and easy to mount. Just a tad long, but the views are worth it. Especially Juptier, Saturn, M13, and the rest of summer globs!

I actually sold my dob to someone living in Toledo. It be nice to get up those ways, I’ll have family trips down to visit parents moving to Tennessee in darker skies. Hard to get out now to darker sites with work, wife working, 3 young kids. It’s why I sold the dob. 10 years from now I’ll go back to the dob when I can get away. Always wanted the 120 for doubles and planets and clusters though.

Same length as the couple 100ED’s I had from Orion and Sky-Watcher. So should work with the two mounts I have no problem. Can’t wait to get this.

I've looked through the sadly discontinued Orion Eon version and a couple of the Skywatcher versions and they were all excellent. You'll love it.

Congrats Jond! Great choice. Does this nix the mak, or is that still something you are considering?

Hey Erin, yeah the Mak got the nix. If the dob wouldn’t had sold, it would’ve been the purchase I made. Luckily it sold before the end of the sale on the ED doublets.

Haha, I don’t get away from the light dome enough to put full use to the dob. The mak would’ve meant having to hold onto the achro as well for slightly wider fields. The 120 should meet all my observing needs. Even though I already know, the dob would’ve won on all targets hands down, I love refractors in the end.

Thanks Tony, zero imaging. Especially since I got my buddy involved in the hobby and he went out and purchased the RASA 8”, I can just live off the photos he sends me from our area.

You will indeed love this scope.

Both the SW 120ED and the SW 100ED are incredibly good scopes. I hope to see a SW 150ED in the metal sometime soon..

Congrats on your purchase of the SW 120 ED Pro!  I believe you will enjoy it.  It puts up a really nice view.  I can’t detect any CA with mine.  Here is a pic of mine mounted on a CG-4.  Does just fine on it for visual.

That’s the same mount it’s going on for me with the 16” extension and RA drive. If the 120f/8.3 rides fine, this should only do better. Then I have the versago head mount I put on there as well for AZ4 mode

Let me know if you want to meetup for some observing when Jupiter swings around this summer.  Fellow CN'r Starman81 has one and I was impressed with the way it seemed impervious to seeing compared to nearby Newt and my SCT.  Rasalgethi was full of refractor goodness in the 120.

Going to definitely take you up on that offer. Maybe you can get starman81 to join us if it happens. I know he’s by me. Always wanted to see through his NV. I’m excited, but we all know how bad the forecast has been around here.

Had my 120 out last nite. It is just Tak sharp, and i mean TAK as in a Tak scope.  Still not sure what i will do with mine, may keep it after all. It is much smaller than the SW150ED and is more grab and go.

BTW, i bought my SW120ED Pro used with a new Moonlite. The Moonlite is smooth as silk. The stock focuser binds a tiny bit , but the fine focus works super.

LX70 holds it fine.  Moonlite really makes it even better.

The 120ED gives you all the attributes of apo refractor goodness without the negatives going just slightly larger imposes. Still light and handy enough to carry around the yard in backyard observing fashion, but with just enough resolution and light gathering to please at the eyepiece. “Less filling, tastes great”! 😉

Keep it and use it for a grab and go.  If you sell a scope that sharp you'll regret it later.  I know I have.
