Here's a question for CN readers - take a look at three motor boards that are for three different Celestron mounts:

CG-5 ASGT  NXW 432  https://agenaastro.c...nts-nxw432.html

Nexstar 6/8  NXW 437  https://agenaastro.c...pes-nxw437.html

CPC series  NXW 431  https://agenaastro.c...pes-nxw431.html

Would any of them work in another mount (i.e. putting a NXW 437 in a CG-5 ASGT, etc)?  Has anyone tried it?

Not sure if some of the components on the boards are different or they are the same, the only difference I see is that they have different or additional connectors.

Chris

I would call Celestron and ask.  A friend had an old AS-GT that needed new boards.  There were several revisions of the boards and they weren't compatible, even though they were for the "same" mount.

They guys at OPT may know, too.  There was a very helpful person there when my friend needed help.  But that was years ago.

I highly doubt they're interchangeable as Celestron wouldn't go through all the bother/cost If they didn't have to.

The MC boards are also how the hand controllers tell what kind of mount they are attached to (hand controller firmware is generic across similar style mounts - one for EQ mounts, another for alt az models). So if you were able to swap an MC board (which I believe you cannot due to at least the differences in the motors, gear ratios, and encoders) then you'd also have problems with an ASGT mount now thinking it's a CPC or other alt az style mount ... and that won't work.
