These were sent to me today. Apparently this one is sitting in a NOAA office and getting ready to be taken to California:

I thought I had already posted my classic here but I guess I didn't. Here is my 4 inch Unitron pointing at the Moon sometime last fall in my observatory.

Bill and Kieth,

Thanks for the tip in regards to the yahoo Oldscope group. I joined and actually have cooresponded with Bob Ariail (who was the 4th owner of record) of my scope. He gave me a great history and said the objective was made by Alvin G Clark or Carl Lundin! I also found a picture of my Dad with the Clark in his observatory in Sedona Arizona.

There are some great photos in this thread.

Everyone please keep them coming! It's such a treat every time I see new replies, because then I know there are new photos or shared memories.

Jim,

What a great find. How old is that picture of your Dad?

The telescope in the NOAA office looks very robust. The newspaper clipping says 'Ancient Telescope'. Any idea who the maker is?

Well, it looks like your Dad was very serious about his astronomy. That's a very nice dome.

Keith (for a very nice scope :smirk:)

I am trying to get some more info on it but from what I have been told there are some "big-wigs" coming to that office and after they leave I should be able to get some more information. The brother of a guy in my office works there and got the pictures - said the thing weighs a TON!

Hopefully more info to come!

Steve

BTW we have one of these in our office (sort of a telescope but classic none the less):

OMG he looks just like my paternal grandfather too!!!

Nonetheless, that is a beautiful picture of your Dad in the observatory beside the beautiful Clark refractor!

Wow!

I have always like those Comet Catchers, neat little scopes.
