First, I'm quite sure it was a satellite: no blinking lights, no lights of different colors, it wasn't moving too quickly, etc.

At 10:15pm EDT last night (the 16th) I observed it moving downward on a path from Merak to Pherkad. It came extremely close to Pherkad at 10:16pm EDT. This was observed in the area of Raleigh, NC.

Does anyone know which one it was?

There is an app called (Heavens Above) and it tells what satellites are going over your location.

Real time.

Looks like a rocket booster, NORAD 39679 is the best candidate.

Here's the h-a pass details from that time yesterday and your loc.

Note h-a is not helpful for finding passes after-the-fact. Calsky is useful for that...

I just like h-a charts...

Most likely it was a SL-4 R/B (Rocket Body) # 39679. It's on the list of 100 brightest satellites. Nice catch ...
