I am thrilled to share my short-film documenting our PlaneWave Instruments 1-meter telescope install in Chile!

The high elevation and stable atmospheric conditions make Chile the perfect location for large aperture research telescopes. The install took 10 hours from the crane-lift until capturing first-light images of the night sky!

I used a Nikon D850 and D750 to capture the night sky timelapses using 8 second photos. The wide angle lens was the Nikon 14mm and the tighter crop was a Rokinon 24mm.

Here is the video on YouTube:

Best regards,

Awesome video... so cool! Also saw your photo of the Milky Way from Chile in this month's Astronomy.... did you take it during the install?

That is one fantastic video. Three thumbs up for sure. waytogo.gif waytogo.gif waytogo.gif

Being down in Chile with all those incredible scopes must be a super wonderful experience. You're a very fortunate young man.bow.gif

Hi Tom!

Glad you enjoy the video. The Milky Way panorama from Chile was on our ACEAP trip back in June of 2017. I did go back and visit that area in March though!

Best,

Matt

Hi Miguel,

Chile certainly has some incredible night skies! The seeing is wonderful there. We had some clouds pass, but the seeing was still dipping to 1 arcsec/px.

Best,

Matt

Great video!

I found a Sky & Telescope video that really gets into your 1 meter Planewave (watching it now)

To say that I am jealous is a vast understatement.
