Hello

My TeleVue Starbeam no longer works reliably, in that the LED does not illuminate when the ON/OFF switch is turned on.

I have changed batteries with no effect.

However, when I tap the bottom of the ON/OFF switch, the LED light does come on (usually).

Clearly there is a loose connection somewhere.

Any ideas about how to fix this?

Thank you.

The switch is dirty.  You want an aerosol to spray into an opening in the switch. Rremove battery first & allow to dry after, rotate the switch while it's wet.  One is : Tuner Control Cleaner and Lubricant -- Radio Shack Cat No. 64-4315. An  equivalent should be available but I can't offer one, someone else will come along who can.

Deoxit works well resolving bad connections - that's what it's made for.

After persevering for several months, the problem remained despite the good advice here. I called TeleVue yesterday and they offered to replace the power unit. Excellent service!

While waiting for your replacement, try some sandpaper or Emory cloth on the contacts in the battery compartment.

This thing is just a fancy flashlight.
