Last weekend, I got a Orion Bahtinov Mask, but I could not get it to "work" for me, once I attached the mask on the telescope's end, then aiming the scope to Arcturus or Vega, I did not get any image feedback at all, I was using iCap software with my Neximage 5 camera on live mode. No matter how much I played with gain or exposure, I could not get any image at all. 

 

Are there some tips you could share about using this kind of focusing aid?

Were you really aiming at Vega/Arcturus of into empty space?

 

You need to be fairly close to focus to begin with. 

 

Remove the mask and make 100% sure you have a bright star in view... and relatively focused.  Then put the mask on and adjust focus as required.

When I have had trouble it was bc I needed to adjust the histogram. Also, yeah make sure you are ball-park focused and in FOV, try changing the zoom level.
