I was fortunate go get a break in the precipitation/clouds that have plagued our area of the U.S. for the last 8 months and got some decent seeing (3/5, jet stream around 50 m/s) during the double transit on June 12th. I haven't done much planetary imaging over the last couple of years, but I'm getting back into it since truly clear skies have been exceedingly rare here. Jupiter is at a max elevation of ~ 25* this year, so I know I'm unlikely to match what I did 2 years ago when it was around 50*.
For this session, I used my ASI178MM-C and RGB filters...I'm new to this workflow, having previously used the ASI224MC for planetary work. I'm open to any comments or critiques that you have as I'm looking to improve my technique and squeeze as much out of my setup as possible.
With all that being said, I'm quite pleased with this result, given that it was great luck to have something so interesting happening at the same time I could actually observe. Also, the seeing was much better than my last time out.
8" SCT, ASI178MM-C at ~140 fps, Astronomik RGB filters. Acquisition of 7 60-second videos between 4:25 GMT (12:25 EDT) and 4:34 GMT (12:34 EDT). 3 red, 2 green, 2 blue videos stacked (40%) in AS!3, wavelets in R6, each set of data (R,G,B) de-rotated in WJ, additional multi-scale sharpening in Astra Image for each de-rotation, and finally RGB combination in WJ, and post-processing in Photoshop. A total of ~24,000 frames used. Whatcha think?
