Hi,

I just got my brand spanking new CEM40EC and just for the life of me can't figure out how to get it to connect to the ASIAir. I have the latest ASIAir software which is supposed to support CEM40 range and I have the latest firmware on the mount. The mount successfully connects to ascom on my laptop with no issues. ASIAir successfully connects to my CEM25P, no issues. I can't for the life of me figure out what is wrong.

I selected every single model of iOptron mount from the mount selection menu and tried to connect to them one by one. I tried using the USB port on the side of the mount and I tried to use the serial port at the bottom of the hand controller, no joy.

easy

USB on the mount body to the ASIAIR

thats it

if you have the latest firmware it should see it and connect ok

that is the USB port on the side of the mount not at the end of the RA axis housing

Cheers

Simon

Will do, soon as I finish backing up the image of the SD Card, just in case I do something stupid and mess it up.

Since your on the development team, maybe you can integrate iPolar into ASIAir so we can completely ditch the laptop. I know there is a polar alignment routine coming, but... iPolar will be just sitting there feeling all lonesome.

I suspect ZWO is worried all the extra features we are requesting will ruin it's user friendliness advantage over Stellarmate. But truth is, this is a complicated hobby and you can't make an omelette without breaking any eggs.

No luck. How do I get access to the latest beta version (I am using android, not apple products) I tried all the different baud rates one by one

Hi Hilmi,

Glad you fixed it! I suppose you're talking about the firmware of ASIair, which version are you using now?

I'm about to have an ASIair soon to use with my CEM40ec too, glad to see your topic:)

Thanks!

I am talking about the ASIAIR firmware. Just restored my original backup and then updated to current release. It then worked like a charm

Hilmi et al,

Could you elaborate on how you updated the firmware on the ASIAir?

I also have a new CEM40EC that does not work with ASIAir.  It actually connects to the mount using the CEM120 choice from the mount menu, at baud rate of 119200, as suggested above by ZL4PLM (Simon). However, even though the ASIAir can apparently "see" the mount, it will not plate solve (sync fails), GOTO, or guide the CEM40. I did polar-align the CEM40, and followed that with a 2-star alignment, before I connected the ASIAir.

When I installed the ASIAir app (from the Apple store) and connected the app to the ASIAir for the first time, it updated the ASIAir firmware automatically to the latest version then available (v.1.1, about 6 weeks ago). But, as far as I know, no subsequent updates of the ASIAir app have been released and therefore my firmware remains the same.

Is there a way to update the firmware independent of the app? Can this be done on a Mac, or does one need a Windows PC?  All I have is a Mac laptop. I did back up the ASIAir software to the Mac using Pi-Baker, as recommended by ZWO

Thanks!

Rolando

You can get to the latest firmware via ASIAir Facebook group. They post links there

Just following up for completeness. I use an iPad, so this is iOS specific, but something similar should work for other platforms. On the iPad (or iPhone), one installs TestFlight (from Apple app store).

Instructions are here: https://testflight.a...m/join/6uEyoSl3

Once TestFlight is installed, it will notify the user any time a new beta version of the ASIAir app is available. One can then install and use that version. The first time a new beta version of ASIAir is opened it will prompt the user to update the firmware on the ASIAir device (Raspberry Pi). Updating firmware takes less than a minute and has worked without problem every time I have updated the ASIAir beta.

I currently have (beta) version 1.2(6) of the ASIAir app. It includes a polar alignment procedure, which works well. It also recognizes the iOptron CEM40 mount, although I have found that the "Scope" tab sets the wrong UTC when given the correct LT--it appears to not take into account daylight savings time.
