Let's see if this TEC-itis thread takes off like NHRob's Takitis thread did (which is still going strong after 5 years!).

I'll start it off by showing something that you don't see everyday.  And no, I'm not well-to-do enough to own two of these simultaneously for an extended period of time.  One of them is going to its new home on Saturday.

I bought my first TEC 140 a few months ago.  A few days ago I found a good deal on a newer model, and the guy from whom I bought my first one wants his back.  Although my new one is 10 years newer, they're virtually identical, both optically and mechanically.  I guess when Yuri makes a good thing he's smart enough not to mess with it.  This is my favorite scope that I've ever owned, and is a big part of the reason why I just cancelled my AP 92 Stowaway order.

No worries.  There are plenty of pictures of Mewlons (Dall-Kirkham Cassegrains) in the Takitis thread in the Refractors forum, and so far no one has objected to that. :)

I certainly want to contribute to the fun.  Here is a picture of my first TEC 140 back in 2010.

And I definitely want to include my favorite little Mak.  These are what Yuri made first and they are still incredible telescopes!  bow.gif

And here is TEC #295, my current TEC.  Yes, I have bought and sold a couple of these due to medical issues, but I keep coming back to them because they are so good.

Wow...really nice, Ron!  Thanks for contributing to this thread.  I used to think that I didn't like the original black font on the first version of the TEC 140s, as I thought it looked a little too plain.  But it's kind of growing on me, and I kind of like it now.  As long as the optics are the same though, that's what really matters.

And I'm glad that I've had the chance to directly compare a TEC 140 with serial # in the upper 200s (circa 2006) to a later one with serial # in the low 700s (circa late 2016 or early 2017).  As expected, they're optically and mechanically identical.  Sure, a comparison "study" with n=2 doesn't provide statistically significant information, but it's good to know just the same that there was consistency in both the models that I've been lucky enough to own.

I see a pair of TEC140EDs everyday since March 2018 :)

What a shameless show off you are Tammy.

But I love it.

My heard, all ED versions but I did have the 140 ED and FL samples at the same time for evaluation.

First the 140 and 160 ED's

Wow--Tammy, that binoscope is nice!  Since both OTAs have the same serial number and they say "binocular" on their lens cell inscription rings, I'll assume that TEC custom-made that binoscope for you?

I really like that TEC 200, Jeff.  It's way too big for me to want one for myself, but I sure wish I had a friend who lived next door to me and owned one! :ubetcha:

Ron, what are the two screws on the right side of the Mak? I'm guessing that they're for attaching a finderscope.

Hi Scott,

Yes, I  believe Yuri made 5 sets of TEC140ED binoscope from the last (?) 10 TEC140EDs before TEC140FL.

Other CNer has #1 and mine is #2.

In case you missed the thread.

But I love it.

Hi Jeff,

Yeah, I was sick of other TEC bashing thread :)  Now I feel good now :)

TEC makes excellent scope.  If I were moving up aperture, I definitely go with TEC.

I enjoyed talking to Yuri during binoscope troubleshooting.

Isn't it awesome APO250VT binoscope some day :)

Tammy

I used to own a TEC140ED for about 1 or 1.5years before I sold it to partly finance my CFF185. Now I am looking for another TEC140. It was foolish to sell. The new owner won't sell me scope back bawling.gif

Great idea for a thread! smile.gif I have Taks, APs, Baaders, Televues but my TECs are my favourite refractors.

I started with a new TEC 140ED (number 709) in December 2016 and it was so good that I upgraded to a new TEC160FL (number 84) in November 2017 after only a six month wait. My TEC160FL is a truly fantastic scope. I have seen E and F stars on the trapezium so clearly and seen 10 craterlets within the Plato crater. I love it!

I find it particulary interesting, that the painting on the end of the dew shield of every TEC seems to be kinda incomplete. It is visible in the pictures of each of the 140s.

That's not incomplete painting. Those are blackened edges to eliminate possible reflections.
