Trying to start the search for the original tripod for the old 1970s-era C8 Celestron 8" SCT -- the scope with the smooth orange tube and the actual holes in the fork arms. Anyone know the name and/or catalog number that I can use for a search? Or are the current Celestron tripods backward-compatible with original wedge?

What's the name of that old Celestron C8 tripod?

Locking Triangle if its the chrome one
Really? That doesn't ring a bell but I'll take a look! Yes, the chrome one.
Trying to get my brother back in the game after a 40-year hiatus...! Thank you!

One of the sturdiest and lightweight ones made IMO.

These were sold until 1983 when the Super C8 tripod was introduced. They are subject to deterioration of the chrome, but not as bad as Chevy truck bumpers!

The “locking triangle” was the three thin bars at the bottom which hooked together to pull the ends of the legs in, tensioning the tripod.

...when the Super C8 tripod was introduced...
Any idea if that 1980s-era Super C8 tripod is backward-compatible with the old 1970s-era C8 scope and wedge...? I could broaden my search

I second that thought. My example came with a 1973 orange-tube Celesttron-5 on sand-cast dual fork mount. When I sold that telescope I kept the tripod and wedge for my Celestron Super Plus 8.
It is definitely sturdy. Here it is holding my 180 lb weight without a complaint.
I still have the original rubber cups that cushion the points of the legs. I can't count the times I've bumped one of these loose and retrieved the missing piece from where it landed. Yeah, the chrome surface of the legs became pitted from long exposure to damp air. But a coating of galvanizing spray has kept rust under control.
