so there’s this thing on the news feeds these days about something called chameleon gravity or somesuch thing, which is supposed to be able to solve all the things relativity can solve plus deal with the dark matter dark energy universe expansion acceleration thing. Someone out there, please tell me that we are not discovering that Einstein‘s theory of relativity is just another paradigm shift which is being laid aside.

Chameleon gravity is a theory in which a hypothetical new scalar field is conformally coupled to the Einstein metric.

It has actually been around since 2004. Experimental attempts to detect the hypothetical field have all been negative.

So relax, it is just another tooth-fairy field invented by theoretical physicists who have gotten lost in math.

Well, if math can have imaginary numbers, they why can't physics have imaginary fields?  Fields full of complex chameleons.
