I always said, I will never start with astrophotography! Everything out there has already been imaged. I was a happy casual observer, enjoying the moon from my big city garden and dreaming of darker, less polluted skies and warmer nights.
2 years ago we moved from Europe to South Africa and now I have warm nights and a new, darker sky. The telescope is out nearly every clear evening. I love the lazy way of setting up my mount in the afternoon with my iPhone and a carpenter level.
One special night with excellent seeing, me and my wife felt literally drunk by starlight. We had been looking at the pincushion cluster. The stars were colourful and sharp, it was pure magic. The intoxicating effect of an overdose of starlight infected me with the “want images” disease. Here is, after many weeks of learning many new things, my first image, the Carina nebula.

Thanks for watching. Clear Skies!
