I would like a pillar in between my Vixen SXG HAL 130 Tripod and my Vixen Porta II mount. I have a 102mm refractor. I’ve looked at the Vixen half-pillar but it doesn’t look like it will do the job. Can anyone tell me what pieces I need to buy? The point of the pillar is so I can keep the scope out of the way of the tripod at zenith, and to keep the legs of the tripod raised as little as possible to prevent the mount from moving around.

Thanks!

Charlie

This is one possibility IF your system uses 3/8" thread center tripod bolt & mount connector:

SkyWatcher Extension pier for AZGTi Telescope Mount-Without Mount and Tripod

Its 9" tall.

Would the Vixen half-pillar work on the standard tripod that came with the Porta II mount that I have?

I recently got the half pillar for my Vixen Starguy alt-az tripod and Porta II to use with my fracs for the very reasons you stated. I went on the Vixen site, clicked on Contact Us and left a query as to whether the half pillar would mount. Got a very quick reply that it would. And it does. Very well indeed. The Orion mentioned above does not work with my Vixen tri-pod. Or so I was advised by them when I asked their customer service. The reply took several days.

Just sent online and found directions to the mount. Apparently the SX half pillar will work. Should have looked there first!

Of course. Both the standard and the hal130 tripods have the same interface.

Well, I used a 16" Orion SkyView Pro pillar I had laying around. Guess what? It worked!
