Here is George this morning with about 25 pounds added weight.  Also Sadie Mae she is not up to long hikes but made the camping trip to the Mark Twain National Forest for the August 2017 total solar eclipse.

"He prefers to sniff and stain wooden tripods."

Oh boy.......I  was warned a year ago when Buddy was a puppy not to leave him alone near any wooden tripods  as pups tend to naw on wood......and the warning was good advice  Thanks Tom

Do cats count?

Of course. They conveniently come in all the Celestron colors: Orange, black, white, gray, even blue and white. Makes it easy to color coordinate your cat with your cat.

I'm not much of a pet person. Janet showed up as a kitten. I spent a few weeks chasing her out of the barn and out from beneath the house porch. I was throwing rocks and sticks and all sorts of things at her. I had no interest in caring for a stray cat. She became cougar kibble a few years ago. But we had maybe a thirteen year run in which she became one of my best friends. She listened to my troubles, allowed me to howl into the night. My observing companion. She loved to take my chair when we observed. We eventually worked out sharing. She also inspected incoming purchases.

And this guy was left quite temporarily in my care almost 4 years ago. Note to self.."never say sure, I can do that for a little bit".  I think we are now pretty much stuck with each other. He needs to be mostly inside (as per owners instructions) (ex girlfriend) but he enjoys matching telescope colors (or lack of) schemes. I keep telling him he resembles an orca more than a telescope and might want to move to Puget Sound...He isn't hearing any of it.

They are no longer on the planet, but they loved reflectors. Possibly the reason why they are no longer on the planet!  Just kidding...

Here's a teddy too, a stuffed one.

When my wife saw me playing with this bear I got in big trouble.

The scope is my Smorgasbord 10 inch f/6.7

I call it a Smorgasbord because it's a smorgasbord of classic delights.

Built with the best available back in the 1970's I think.

Robert

The old and the classic....here's Rex with the 6344.

I had to bribe him with a plate of Hamburger Helper residue to get the shot.

Penny is a Golden Retriever, here in her summer haircut, looking more like a lab. She does not like having her picture taken.

Penny - 1.jpg

She's not particularly into astronomy, but likes being outdoors, and being with me, so when I'm observing, it's a doubly good time. Her job is to chase away the skunks (has only caught them twice, so far) and the deer, and otherwise she just enjoys sitting, smelling, and listening to the night.

We go out together every night for at least a few minutes. I look at the sky and she looks toward the next neighborhood, where several dogs live.
