Greetings everyone,

We're getting ready to open registration for the Staunton River Star Party. The park staff are eager to have us return to enjoy their dark skies.

The dates for the star party are October 21 - 27. We should have the registration page open in short order.

We're looking forward to seeing everyone again this year. The order for clear skies has been placed.

More details to follow soon.

Clear Skies!

Hey Jayme

That sounds good to me. Sorry I missed out coming last October, Was a bit on the wet side I heard. Plus I had just started a NEW job, so that made it hard to get away as well.

But now, that's out of the way, and looking for some time off and Clear Skies, and I know just the place to go. hamsterdance.gif

See you all in October.

Jim, I mean Spock!!

We’ll be heading down for it. Already reserved one of the cabins for 4 nights.

I just registered (August 2nd).  Perhaps the late web site posting is a SRSP staff tactic to escape hurricane notice!

My Fellow Astronomers, the Staunton River Star Party registration is officially open. dalek12.gif dancey.gif elephant.gif

The Staunton River Star Party runs from October 21 - 27.

I was at the park last night, Aug. 3rd and took some SQM readings. The average was 21.53 at 11:30pm. It was a very nice evening. One of the few without thunderstorms.

The park is excited that registration is open and are eagerly anticipating our return. They really enjoy having us there to enjoy their skies.

The State of Virginia has just recently added another IDA Dark Park at James River State Park.  They are working on adding a third park, Fairy Stone State Park. It is good to know that this star party has changed the mind set of a state government of how important it is to have dark skies.

Go to www.stauntonriver-starparty.org to register. dancey.gifhamsterdance.gif Ihavenojoints.gif

Clear Skies!

Jayme

Just checked them out. Fairystone and James River both look promising, albeit further away from me.

I haven't registered yet, but am definitely planning to come. I got the t-shirt last year and am considering the hoodie this year. The photo suggests it is full-zip. Is this correct?

I'm thinking late October could get a bit chilly at night. Thinking about an electric blanket to toss in the back of my truck for sleeping. Anyone have any idea what sort of amperage those things pull? Don't want to be the guy who trips the system. However, I'm diabetic, gotta keep these big feet warm.

I have never been to this star party. Living in Eastern North Carolina, it looks fairly close. I have an RV, and they have hookups. I may come to this one and skip the WSP in the Keys.

I think you'll like it. A lot closer than the Keys anyhow.....

David

There are RV hookups but not on the observing field, they are in the camp ground, about a 5 minute walk to the observing field depending on which camp site you get.  That said, there is 110v 20 amp service on the field, enough to charge your house batteries during the day.  Assuming the field is dry enough to drive on to, most RVs and camp trailers set up on the field.

Soon, my Good People,

My fellow creatures of the Night.

Soon, we shall stand in awe at the gates of Eternity.

Trapping ancient light in silent reverie.

Hey everyone, I bet you think I fell off the face of the earth. No, I haven't, but I have been to the Artic Circle.coldday.gif

Alright, so it wasn't that cold. But we did get a sales call on out cell phone. Yes, at the Artic Circle. We have Sprint as our carrier.

Well we are in the last few weeks before the star party. We are starting to put on the final touches. A few notes of added events sponsored by the park.

Costume Contest and a Pumpkin Carving Contest.

We will have more details on our website and Facebook page.

Things are getting exciting! More info to come …
