I've built a desktop to run Pixinsight, and will use it for astrophotography post processing only. The build includes an ASRock AB350 Pro4 mobo, Ultra M,2 256gb ssd, Ryzen AMD1700x, GE Force GTX 1050 graphics card, and 32gb 3200 ram. My question, will there be a noticeable performance difference between a Win10 or Ubuntu 18.04.2 LTS install?

Thanks in advance.

Mike

Perhaps dual boot then you can share with the rest of us how each OS performs. I for one would be interested in hearing how they compare.

Peace...

I would post this to the PI Forum.  I don't think it makes much difference.  BTW - The graphic card doesn't make a difference.

I built a dedicated astro processing system last year using a Ryzen CPU with a dual boot, Win10 pro and Ubuntu. I configured my Ramdisk the same for both OS. I ran benchmarks for both and Ubuntu was a clear winner. I will go back and grab the data and post later.

This is from the benchmark page if PI.  It's the Linux version which was 10 seconds faster than Win 10 on same machine.

As noted above.  There is a whole page on the PI site which lists user submitted benchmarks:

http://pixinsight.com/benchmark/

It will let you see the performance differences between configurations and OSs.
