How is the mount for fine motions?

Its ok for fine motions, but I still prefer one with the slow motion control or with the handle. As of now this is the only mount that I trust and can handle this refractor other than my AVX GEM.

Will that mount fit in a suitcase? Looking for an airline-portable mount for my SV 80mm short tube.

The mount would not fit into a suitcase. You just have to consider other options.  I take the setup with me when I travel to other states to work for months at a time. Of course I have to have my van with me plus other stuff.

Picked this up last November, as a retirement gift.  AT152EDT

Below are two of my other scopes. (102 and 130) I need to get one of the SV80ST that my wife won at OPT years ago.

I was thinking about the mount and the tripod. The mount can fit into a an airline approved carry bag but you still have the tripod.

Looks perfect for my ZS 73!  No one seems to have that mount with the tripod.  The mount head is available, how does it mount to the tripod?  Would it work on a sturdy photo tripod?

Dan, If its of any help, I use my Porta II head (not the adjustable one but it has the same mounting provision) on a good ol' EQ-3 steel leg that used to carry a CG-4 GEM. The Porta head has a 10mmx1.5 threaded female underneath and I can use the existing mounting bolt as seen in the pic. Otherwise, I use a hex socket bolt with a washer. It's a bolt up, works fine and it's really solid.

A photo tripod would need some modifying, an adapter or such, but with a light scope like a 71 it would be a peach of rig.

I was thinking of a big check-in suitcase.

Bought this OTA for 90€ this weekend, including an EQ5 tripod which I'm gonna try to sell.

After cleaning the lens cell and inner tube (there were dustbuns, dead spiders etc...tried it on M42,45 and the moon. No coma except with higher magnifications. Near crisp views.
Only downside is the focuser. Cleaned and regreased it which improved it a bit.

Quite happy with it!0edc8e3e778798469ce44951a34c0f8b.jpg
