Since MPC file hasn't updated yet,

I wondered if someone could help me construct the elements published here:

https://minorplanetc...K19/K19RA6.html

for C/2019 Q4 (Borisov)

I can't seem to find an active link explaining the MPC format.

Trying to translate to format to use in Stellarium (see below)....

C/2019 Q4 (Borisov)
Epoch 2019 Apr. 27.0 TT = JDT 2458600.5
T 2019 Dec. 10.22933 TT                                 Williams
q   1.9401198            (2000.0)            P               Q
z  -1.0719332      Peri.  210.69784     -0.81178694     -0.17377598
+/-0.0580079      Node   307.54021     +0.56538374     -0.47273850
e   3.0796789      Incl.   44.67540     -0.14609311     -0.86389827
From 145 observations 2019 Aug. 30-Sept. 11, mean residual 0".5.

Ephemeris:
Date    TT    R. A. (2000) Decl.     Delta      r    Elong.  Phase   m1    m2
2019 08 12    07 52 52.7 +37 54 38   4.0466  3.2142    30.4     9.2  19.1
...
2019 08 27    08 20 55.0 +34 27 12   3.7229  2.9708    36.4    11.6  18.6
...
2019 09 04    08 35 55.6 +32 18 45   3.5476  2.8460    39.7    13.1  18.3
...
2019 09 10    08 47 10.9 +30 33 05   3.4158  2.7550    42.3    14.2  18.1
2019 09 11    08 49 03.3 +30 14 38   3.3939  2.7401    42.7    14.4  18.0
2019 09 12    08 50 55.8 +29 55 57   3.3720  2.7252    43.1    14.6  18.0
...

into the Stellarium format of:

orbit_AscendingNode =
name =
coord_func = comet_orbit
orbit_Inclination =
albedo =
orbit_ArgOfPericenter =
absolute_magnitude =
orbit_good =
radius =
dust_widthfactor =
orbit_TimeAtPericenter =
dust_lengthfactor =
type = comet
dust_brightnessfactor =
orbit_PericenterDistance =
slope_parameter =
orbit_Eccentricity =

note I'm sure some XML entries are software-specific, I can improvise, just want to synthesize the orbit essentially....

Thanks in advance!

Thanks,

I must have not been clear, my question is formatting based and not about software,

as that link only points me to the ini file, from which I extracted the empty XML items in my OP above.

My question is more how the formatting in the MPC's bulletin operates,

such as what is "q" and "p" and "z".

For example this helpful site has a link to explain:

http://spiff.rit.edu...wareComets.html

(click on MPC format),

but the link is 404 dead and wasn't archived at archive.org.

Was just hoping some comet observer may know a bit more....

The MPC file for C/2019 Q4 is now available so problem solved. Looks like the comet will be visible to us in the N Hemisphere until around Christmas-time.

1. Run Stellarium

2. Press Ctrl+Alt+S

3. Open tab "Search online"

4. Put "C/2019 Q4" and press button "Search"

5. Check comet and press "Add objects"

6. PROFIT!
