hello,

I seems the metal motor covers for the 492 dds are not available any more, but there are "Stepper Motor Cove, Plastic (SMCP)" available.

Do these fit the 492 motors with rubber covers? They have two holes, which are probably for screws, but I don't see fitting holes on the motors.

thanks,

Phil

My impression was that those are soft covers, like the rubber ones but with texture instead of slick finish. Haven't used them though.

The hole spacing in the replacement covers seems to match with the mounting holes for the stepper motors, so I guess you could add some spacers to hold the cover, but (before I added an RA extension kit) I liked the idea of the cover being able to slide around in case I accidentally hit the RA motor with the Dec axis.

They fit the standard stepper motors just like the aluminum covers.  The screw holes align with 6-32 threaded spacers attached to the mount with 6-32 studs through the gearbox mounting holes.

Thanks for the input, I ordered them, and will report back how things turn out.

the covers arrived, and I can see, that they align with the motor mounting screws, now I need to find a way to get the threaded spacers in metric Europe. crazy.gif

Just to make sure. The motor mounting screw needs to be replaced by a threaded spacer? Is this a standard size? I marked the assumed location of the spacer in red.

The plastic covers look a little cleaner than the rubber ones:

I think this would be the right part:

Product:Standoffs
Type:Hex
Thread Size:6-32
Length:1.63 in
Material:Stainless Steel
Outside Diameter:1/4 in
Gender:Male/Female

is this correct?

Aluminium or stainless steel? What diameter?
