Newbie here.

I've been using Siril to convert and stack my raw files but sometimes it fails.  When I get to the registration step I either get an immediate message that registration fails or it goes through the painstaking process of considering each image and rejecting it.

So far this happens to about 10% of my stacks.

I've tried telling it to use a different color channel (that worked once out of three times).  I've also tried all the algorithm options.

Any idea what I am doing wrong?  Is this just a limitation of Siril?

(Technical details: Nikon D7000 camera, 15-30m total integration time, different OTAs, mediocre to poor tracking)

I am also interested in suggestions for other linux based, open source, stacking software.  I am aware of APP and PI and other commercial products, but at this time I am only interested in open source that runs under linux.

Thanks,

-David

You might want to open a couple of your RAW files in SIRIL by themselves to see whats going on. Nikon uses the NEF extension so SIRIL automatically thinks it can read your files, but there might be something wrong with each file.

Speaking from experience, using a Z6 and everything worked fine until the registration step.

So I opened up one file by itself and it looked like just a bunch of lines and dots.

What I had to do was convert all the NEF files to DNG (Version 11.2) so that SIRIL could properly read and understand the data.

Adobe DNG converter is free software.

I would recommend anyone use Adobe DNG Converter for Nikon's Z6, Z7 or Canon's EOS R, Rf or really any camera's RAW files which dont seem to be working with your integration or stacking program.

No idea on the problems, as I use neither Siril nor a Nikon.

For Linux programs, you can have a look at ASTAP and lxnstack (the latter is quite old though). There is also THELI, but it's a quite complex package.
