Comparing the XL with a Masuyama would be interesting.

For the price, you could get 6 Nagler 31mm EPs. Or a complete set of Ethos EPs.

£600 for the Masuyama 60mm seems cheap!

"US $3,900 plus shipping"

Oh, well, if I have to pay for shipping, forget it.

Or US 19$ for the eyepiece, plus 3900$ shipping.

I think you may have trouble finding anyone who has actually owned this EP.   Even the reviewer said it was too expensive. Folks who can afford that kind of money for EPs are probably buying that Ethos set instead.

Me, I'd be looking at some custom mid-sized dobs or maybe a big ED triplet . . .

Do a good work and spend all that money on the apollo 11 auction.

No guarantee usable eye relief would be enough for me TV's 19mm figure. At time of writing the max bid is $2300. Only an 80mm Masuyama costs near that much....

TV's Paul is pictured looking through the A11 naked eye, with his glasses raised, not an encouraging image to want the A11 in general if you need to wear glasses.

It seems that only four eyepieces are made. I have only seen two in Japan.
One was listed at a Japanese auction 10 years ago for 400,000 yen (about $ 3,700) but did not sell. The other is owned by a friend. He said it was a great view, but I haven't seen it yet.
When I checked PENTAX 11 years ago, production had already ended. I think it is very difficult to get this.

Thank you fmasa. Perhaps they were made for the big Pentax refractors. I guess the 60mm Masuyama is the XL's successor in Japan.

Actually people who bought the complete Ethos or Delos sets (or both) some years ago might be looking around for something else to play with, and this would be it.  Don't forget that some users have satisfied "all their basic and most of their extra needs as well" and still have money to sink into this or that aspect of the hobby, just to see what they can see.

But no, I'm not going to pop $4k for a 60mm Pentax.  I might be tempted but the kid's in college.

But think, just to say, "I had it."  Greg N
