That is a serious-looking mount!

Interesting.

I wish manufacturers wouldn't put connectors (like the power connector) on parts of the mount that move.  Urg. :(

Kevin (skyward_eyes),

This is an update to the existing EQ8, it seems. Is there a more complete list of things that have changed that you could publish?

Things that are listed as being improved are:

  • USB Port on the Mount ("Improved Connectivity")
  • Center Located Motor Assemblies ("Improved Position for Better Balance")
  • Improved Clutch [Does this mean the clutch doesn't affect worm engagement?]
  • Belt Drive on DEC
  • Power and USB Hub Ports at the Dovetail Plate [Is that a correct interpretation?]

   Things removed, it seems:

  • Auxiliary Encoders [I assume this means you cannot release the locks and keep some alignment.]

The main thing I would have liked to see in the improvements but not listed is:

  • Spring Loaded Worms

If there are other less obvious or unlisted features than given on the FLO Website, please elaborate. Since the FLO page says they are available for immediate shipment, I assume they are now available in Europe. Do you have any information that you can mention regarding when these might come to North America / USA?

If these have spring loaded worms, I might be interested to buy again / upgrade.

John

You seem to have overlooked the more interesting version - EQ8-Rh.

That should get some chatter going on Cloudy Nights. :)

Steve.

I would have loved that this new EQ8 to be a new "AZ-EQ8"... :-) ... an AZ mode for more ergonomic use in visual mode with large OTAs could have benn interesting. (for instance I place a Dob400 FlexTube OTA on EQ8, but there are some "impossible" to use positions of the OTA). .... and maybe to have WiFi integrated already :-)

I have now an EQ8, I see no reason to upgrade to EQ8-R
