Will sky watcher be coming out with an upgraded HEQ5 any time in the near future like the EQ6-R Pro?

Nothing on the docket at the moment. If we did what would you guys want on it that the current HEQ5 does not already have?

I'm not sure, what upgrades did the EQ6-R Pro get over the previous versions? Belt drive? Better gears/motors?

Mine is less than 2 months old.  Here's what I'd change:

-Connectors should angle down slightly, or at least be vertical.  Up makes no sense.

-Better quality hardware.  The plastic knobs & screws feel very cheap and bend easily.

-Quieter gears

-Shorter minimum height for the tripod

-Better quality castings for the leg ends.  (Mine couldn't sit level before I modified it.)

-Strengthened vixen rail.  The material is soft and gets little dents from each use.

-Include a power adapter.

-Mac compatibility for any software

And what I'd add for the future:

-Belt Drive

-Built in PoleMaster

-Hand controller with a display of at least 4 lines or an option with NO hand controller?  (Mine is only used to connect the computer.  I don't touch any settings or do an alignment with it.  Why do I need it?)

-Wifi or Bluetooth adapter built in.

A double lock on each tripod leg too.

That would be interesting to have, they'd just need to put a USB port on the mount itself for computer connections.

  • belt drives
  • carrying handle
  • USB input for EQMOD control (I’m thinking along the lines of a built-in ShoeString USB2EQ5 interface)
  • tripod spreader that can be stored on a tripod leg (allows the tripod to be folded completely without having a loose piece to misplace)
  • optional carrying/storage case
  • built-in USB hub
  • optional converter box (like StarSense for SW) to permit use of NexStar HC and Celestron accessories
