Hi All,

I just purchased an iOptron SkyGuider Pro and I'd like to mount it on a Meade Standard Field Tripod. What kind of hardware/adapter will I need? Thanks for your help!

Can you send me some Meade tripod pictures and I will come up with something for you.  Are you using the SkyGuider Pro wedge?  What about the DEC bracket and counterweight?

I have the SkyGuider Pro but not the tripod.

Hi Jim, thanks a million for your reply! I should be receiving the SGP in the mail today, and I'm picking up the tripod tomorrow. I'll post some pics when I get it, but in the meantime I'll try to post a pic from the web. I will be using The SGP wedge and Dec bracket with counterweight.

Hi Jim,

Here's an image of the Meade Standard Field Tripod. I've read that the center bolt is 1/2" x 13tpi.

You may have problems with this tripod.  If you will be using the SkyGuider Pro DEC Bracket and weights its unlikely that the bracket / weights will clear the base of the tripod.  You will have to try it out.

You will need to find a machine shop that will rethread the end of the existing tripod bolt to fit the base of the SkyGuider Pro wedge.  The wedge takes a 3/8 20 bolt.  I think the tripod bolt is larger - 1/2 20???  You may also have to cut some of the bolt off.

You may have to raise the wedge off the tripod base so the DEC Bracket / weight clears the base of the tripod.

Thanks Jim. I've been looking for adapters, but I hadn't thought about the counterweight clearance issue.

What mount/tripod are you using for your SGP and are you pleased with it?

BTW - I see that you are in San Diego.  I get all my washers, screws, bolts ...etc from Ace Hardware.

Jim,

How did you adapt the Vixen tripod’s metric size bolt to the 3/8” sized wedge?

Jim,

The bolt on my Vixen HAL is captive. Your's isn't?

Should have a 'C' clip ring on top?

I was able to remove my bolt.
