I bought a used D750 and at some point I'll modify it by removing either the Hot Mirror or the Hot Mirror and Dust Reduction filters. The mod will mainly be for telescope use but it would be handy to be still able to use lenses.

What I'm wondering is will I still be able to use camera lenses if I move the chip forward by 1/3 of the thickness of the glass removed?

Another thought I had was to carefully power up while the backplate is off the camera and with a lens fitted, then adjust the chip to a known previous focus position for that lens.

Any advice welcome.

p.s. I have modified my d5600 previously but I only use it on a telescope.
