I've just posted a new essay to my web site.

The Milky Way's rising in the summer sky is a perfect time to get a sense of
our place in the Galaxy.

NOTE: according to Cloudy Night's TOS I must identify myself as a vendor since this link goes to my commercial site.

Nice essay, Bill, and nice web site! A new 'favorite' for me.

Thinking terrestrialy (alt-az) and celestially (RA and Dec) and galactically - good mental exercise.

Best, Jay

Unfortuately I live about 100km south of the polar circle, and here are no stars during about 3 months...especially not now which is the lightest day at the year!

Fortunately, you can still play the game. You can do it earlier in the year by just waiting later at night for the Milky Way to rise. However, at 66º latitude, the MW will be inclined 39º to the horizon when it rises. This will definitely hinder the illusion of the plane of the Galaxy being coincident with the horizon.
