Found a deal on Craigslist for a NexStar 5SE and accoutrements. Personally I jumped at the deal but want feedback from others. Here is the current proposal.

condition: like new
make / manufacturer: Celestron
model name / number: NexStar 5SE

This posting is for the telescope and the following items with my purchase prices:
Celestron NexStar 5SE Telescope.
Orion Star Shoot Color Imaging camera.
Orion Astronomy case.
Orion Planetary Lens ( perfect for lunar exploration ).
ED-2 Lens 9.5mm.
ED-2 Lens 18mm.
Color Filtering kit.
Televue 2x Barlow
All for $450!!
Should I grab this? I want to get into planetary imaging and feel this is my cheapest entry.

$50 for only the mount would be a good deal.

Looks like a good deal! The TV Barlow is worth at least a quarter of that price anyway. I see those 5SEs listed for $400 with just the OTA and mount, so it sounds like you're getting some good extras for the value.

I've seen that camera before and I don't think it does much more than planetary. If that's all you want to focus on then it's probably a good choice for a camera as well.

$50 for the mount....... that doesn’t explain if the scope is poorly suited for planetary imaging. Nor does it explain if the price suggested is fair. A mount without a scope does me 0 good.
And nothing as to advice on the Astrocam or eyepieces.
Let’s concern responses to the question posed. Is the package suitable And priced for a deal?

Ryan thank you this is a meaningful response that addresses my concerns
I love how someone will pose a question and then someone “who knows more” shoots an answer that is loosely related to the question and raises more than answers
As if I was only interested in the mount 🤨

Assuming the SE electronics/mechanics all work OK, I think this is a good deal. The C-5 OTA can get about $250 minimum and Ryan had a good point. Not sure what the troll comments were about.

Looks like a fairly good deal, the TV barlow is worth about 100, the camera another 100, the scope and mount is worth 250 - 300 or so and the rest is bonus.  Just make sure your expectations are set accordingly, this is an introductory package good for shooting the moon and okay for Jupiter/Saturn/Mars/Venus.  You will not want to spend the time shooting deep space objects with this setup.

What are you looking for ? An exact breakdown of each item you have listed?

Listen closely to what others are trying to say to you...

This is a beginner setup that you are going to or have spent $450 on.

If you have already bought said equipment then enjoy...

p.s. Where is the mount? As far as I can see there is No mount... so for an 5" with these accessories... a no go.... now if you are valuing the Televue Barlow... have at it... there is no sense to your post...

Yes, he's trying to gauge if he has found a good deal or not. I think anyone in this hobby would like to to know that information. This is not an uncommon request so why are you being so inflammatory? All he's doing is asking a question..

I feel like 99.9% of craigslist sales for telescope bundles don't bother to list the tripod separately from the Nexstar scope. It all fits together so well that people without much know-how do not realize they should be listed as separate pieces. Let's just make the likely assumption that the scope is coming with the tripod as it makes no sense to assume he's purchasing it otherwise.

Kelly has hurt feelings it seems because I’m trying to keep the thread on topic and specific.
Apparently she misunderstood the idea of the post or failed to seek clarification. I don’t remember asking for individual values.
Pretty sure I asked a general question that seems simple enough to answer. Is the scope suitable for planetary imaging? Is the package priced fairly or better? Speaking about the package and not individual items. Let’s keep bruised egos away from the post.

I’m sorry Ryan is spot on. He gave a response that answers exactly what I asked.
I think Kelly you are mistaken.
He’s answered the question exactly the way that satisfies my curiosity
Whereas you have not

RyanSem,

So you are in Lancaster Pa.... I have been to your Astronomy meetings. My daughter, her husband and my grandchildren have been to your club meetings. I spent a good deal of time voting for your local school astronomy teacher for funding for renovation of the school observatory there... it is great that he won the funding and that the students benefited.

good to know you...

No offense taken. People don’t like to be told their assumptions are wrong.
Moving away from the inflammation, we can get back to OP.
Sounds like the package will be adequate to begin learning astrophotography in a very basic way. A basis upon which to build on.
My curiosity has been satisfied but if anyone has anything to say about imaging with a 5SE, I’m all ears.

If you search astrobin you can see what others have been able to do with a Nexstar 5SE. I'm sure there is a way to further narrow down the results to people using the same camera!

So far that is your only response that was relevant to the conversation. Your first post was ...silence... Reading that with the eye of an outsider, one would find that humorous. I’m seeking advice and knowledge so forgive me for not laughing (it wasn’t that funny anyway).
Your next post was way off the mark. You assumed I wanted individual values and such. Yes I admit the seller and I don’t know the tripod should be a separate item, but I get to benefit from that. However if you would have SOUGHT CLARIFICATION instead of letting your “diarrhea of the mouth” happen, you would have known that both of us didn’t know it should have been separate or that it was included in the sale.
Then You proceeded to attack me personally and to do such in a public forum only serves to illuminate your deficiency in communication.

I suspect you are something of a internet misfit who has found your way here onto Cloudy Nights.

Maybe stay on Craigs List as your home base... you will be able to find your good deals there. .

Wow... should I step in as a substitute mod while the the other(s) are on a sick day.

Isn't there something about play nice and be respectful..

No wait, I don't want the job. :)

Just let it be and agree to disagree, geez.

But without researching myself I don't see why you couldn't get your money back out of it if it's not for you.

It's all good. I have notified the moderators, blocked the Lancaster Pa guy, as he was sending me private messages and called the police...

The internet... you never know what you will get...
