I’ve been looking forward to observing Orion again and this morning I woke up early and saw Orion beaming brightly in the South. I couldn’t resist taking a scope outside for a quick early look. I’ve had great success with a Tak fsq85 as a night vision grab and go scope so this was my choice today. Also, yesterday I’d received a Baader ultra short Tak clamp which increases the in focus and meant that I was able to get my 0.75x rc reducer and 41mm panoptic to focus (just by about 3mm!). I could immediately see that this setup gave much less astigmatism than using a 55mm plossl.
I wouldn’t normally post images of the views from my lp back garden in south west London, since the shots I’ve taken at dark sites are just so much better. But I thought I would today, just to give an indication of the quite pleasing views I got this morning. In particular, the sky background is pretty grey and there is definitely less fine detail but it was a lot of fun nevertheless.
Very much looking forward to some dark site observing of the Orion region soon.
