What can I do to replace the blue filter in my Lunt BF 1200 short of contacting Lunt? I'm not sure this is a rust problem, correct me if I am wrong.

How old is this filter?  I'm sorry I can't help you but it concerns me as I'm looking to get one myself.  Can you/did you use an IR blocking filter before this filter?

You can clean it yourself. All the information is in this thread:

Did it myself, takes less than 5 minutes.

I have had this filter since 12/2016. Have always kept the scope in a climate controlled environment. I have read on CN that this is a common problem. I love my Lunt scope and would not hesitate buying another one. I have never used an IR filter.

Thanks for the responses High and Bart. I sent an email to Lunt to see what they have to say. They have always been helpful. I would rather fix the problem myself. Now I know the blue glass is not a filter.

Just spoke with Benjamin at Lunt. They are sending me the part and a tutorial on how to replace. Now that is the way to treat your customers. Thanks Ben.

It is very easy to replace and Lunt is quick to provide a new filter usually at no charge.

I do recommend that you get a lens spanner if you don't already have one.   You might not need it for the job, but it will make it far easier, and once you have one, you will find that it has a lot of uses in the future.

Thanks Eddgie. My replacement blue glass is on the way from Lunt.
