Your recommendations for a case for a 1976 field model?

Thanks,

Gary

There are many choices. Hard cases like Pelican or soft like Tenba or Tamrac. The Field model is so light and small that it can fit almost anywhere, even a backpack.

Thanks. It seems that unless you have your Questar right there and see if it fits it would be difficult to choose the appropriate one. That's why I was looking for anyone that already found a case that fits. I really didn't want to take the Questar to a store to do this :-) I'm not going to be travelling with the scope. I see that Pelican cases cost a mint so just a padded bad would be fine as long as it was very padded. I'm looking on Amazon too but getting the correct size is not so easy.

Go to Harbor Freight. Check out their "Apache" brand cases(Pelican knock-off). If you receive their coupons-they are on sale. I own four Pelican cases, but now buy the Apache cases(own six of the Apache-various sizes).

Check out the Apache model#3800= $29.99(with a coupon) or the larger Apache model#4800= $44.99(with coupon). All with layers of "pluck" foam and "egg crate" top foam(in the lid).

Yep, the Apache cases are one of the best deals out there.

Okay, great ideas, thanks. I'll check this out. How difficult is it to customize the foam for the field model Questar?

The Apache cases have the "pluck" foam included. A few minutes and you are done!

Good news! There is a Harbor Freight only about 20 minutes away. I just went there and got the 4800 case. It's really nice. I had no coupon so paid the $60 regular price. Now I have to go and work on my plucking skills :-)

Thanks!

Take a razor knife to cut the nibs that hold the pluck foam-together(at least on the the top nibs)-then pluck the foam.  Makes a much neater appearance.
