What goes in the hole shown in the pic below? Is it a threaded metal knob/plug of some sort? Like this maybe?
I don't have the mount anymore but I need to know in order to help out the purchaser....

Yes, it is a threaded metal cap. Not sure if it is the one shown in your link and I don’t see them under mount parts and accessories. AP probably has them if you call or email.

My A-P mount came origionaly with just a red plastic cap in that hole...

It looks like a hole that could be used to install a polar axis scope to aid in polar alignment.

As has been said, normally there is just a cap there.
If you look at the other side, there is a corresponding hole where you can install a polar scope. When you polar align the mount with the scope, you can remove the cap and see through it. When you are done, you can replace the cap.
It does not affect the function of the mount in any way, and I suspect that if you give Astro-Physics a call, they can sell you a replacement cap.

Polar scope sight hole. I am sure AP has them. But make sure you tell them it is for a 1200 as it requires 2 pcs. The 900 is a single pc.
I actually ordered an extra one and modified it to mount polemaster.
