Last night a couple members of my local club decided to run out for an impromptu observing session and man I'm glad I went.  It was a real PN night but I did grab a couple others including a nebula that turned out not to be what I was going for.

NGC 7538 Dreyers Object
I thought I was sketching the Bubble Nebula but later when I tried to match up the star field to photos I could not.  I then found out about Dreyer's Object and the stars matched.  Remember kids, always take your time and accurately place the stars

NGC 7293 Helix Nebula
My take on the Helix Nebula.  I really took my time and used all my best observing technique to tease out as much detail as I could.  Looking at photos later and confirming that those details were real was a massive vindication.

NGC 7662 Blue Snowball
NGC 7009 Saturn Nebula
More planetary nebulae!  I have seen some real nice images of 7009 on here lately but I was really struggling.  Any pointers?

NGC 7789 Carolines Rose
Ended the night on Caroline's Rose.  I've looked at some photos and sketches and I can see there's a lot of rich structure that I didn't notice so I will definitely have to go back and take another crack at this one.

Chiron,

These are all fine looking planetary sketches you have rendered, thanks for posting them here.

Chiron, I'd recommend hitting the Blue Snowball with some magnification. It'll show some detail. It's bright enough to take magnification and probably does not need a filter. Below is my sketch through a 6" aperture, forgot the magnification but probably above 300x (as usual), and no filter.

I gotta go see Dreyer's object, that looks interesting.

Chiron,

Great set of sketches--I liked reading your notes, too.  smile.gif

Norme, nice take on NGC 7662.  I'd have to call it the Dirty Snowball, tho.  grin.gif
