Hi,

I see there's an assistant in NINA for polar alignment but I wonder if it's really convenient compared to Sharcap for instance.  I have no mount right now so I cannot try it and cannot find much information about it.  Did you try that assistant?

Cheers

I'm looking forward to others jumping in here...

I tried it when NINA first came out, and had no luck with it.  Which led me to SharpCap, and I am still using it.  I would love to hear that it is working great now but as well as SharpCap works, I'm not too worried about it.

That said, NINA still rocks!

I have tried it.  It works well, but takes quite a bit longer than Sharpcap.

That's OK with me, since I was using it to fine-tune my alignment on a permanently-mounted setup -- the drift alignment used took 10-15 minutes, but resulted in PHD2 reporting 0.3" of polar misalignment consistently, run after run.  So it's accurate, if slow.

If you're looking for a quick alignment for a portable setup, probably not the best.  For permanent setups, it's very accurate.

I use Nina's polar alignment  followed by  PHd2  drift  when I image from home from balcony.  Like Paul  I have always had 0.3 to 0.5" degree of error between PHd2 and NINA

Love NINA, but haven't bothered with its PA functionality.  SharpCap just rocks that function for me to look anywhere else, honestly.

Thank you for the comments.  Is there a video/explanation somewhere about NINA PA Assistant procedure?

Scroll down to the "Panel: Polar Alignment" section.

How does NINA compare with BackyardEOS?
