Just bought the 4mm Orion LHD 80-Degree Lanthanum Ultra-Wide Eyepiece

20mm eye relief. Since the exit pupil on it is .85mm, doesn't the long eye relief seem a bit too much?

The exit pupil is critical with this Ultra Wide field having to place it centered or their are black outs.  20mm makes it even more difficult because you have no resting place (no eye guard).

I made up one with some foam ring which help that alot though.

$270 EP Got it about half price used, but like new. I can easily return it but not sure now. For that much money, it has to be a good eye piece.

The eyeguard can be screwed raised up a little, & removed.

I found that....I wasn't sure if I was just unscrewing the lens' or what.

It's for eye relief adjustment purpose?

I know if  you unscrew all the way, it comes off

You do not see it as much these days, but If the eyeguard is removable, it might be to allow attachment directly to a T-ring.
