What do we know?

Astronomics has basic info but no pic yet, and the more on the way note. This appears to be a new version of an old model, ie a smaller version of the screaming best buy AT102ED. 80mm and $399 gotta be a best buy. Retractable dew cap, short.

I started this thread hoping Mike/Astronomics could keep us updated, and answer potential customers / owners questions.

.they are in the boat and on the water.  It has been about 2 weeks or so since mike announced that.  I would guess they should be hitting us soil in about another week.  Figure a week or so for astronomic to go through the shipment and check things out.  I am guessing shipments should reach us just in time for Christmas.  Expect snow:-).

Well remember, Astronomics has zero control over when the scopes are made, put on a boat, when the boat will arrive, US Customs & the shipping company that ships from LA to OK. When it comes to buying an out of stock item from Astonomics I have found them to be reliable and extremely trustworthy however they cannot control a lot when it comes to shipping other that when it arrives at their shop, then they work very hard to get them in the hands of their customers as quickly as possible while being as safe as possible too.

I completely understand and did not mean to suggest otherwise! More I was describing my own state of mind.  Like a kid waiting for Christmas.   I am sure others are feeling the same.    Like I said, all my interactions with the folks at astronomics have been very positive.   I am waiting on the triplet version and I am really looking forward to playing with it.  Have read a lot of good things about their whole range of refractors.

Cheers!

I flew out of LAX a couple of days ago.  I had a window seat, and the route gave me a great view of the port of Los Angeles.  There were a dozen or more cargo ships that looked like they were just waiting to get off loaded.  It looked like an extremely busy place.  I wouldn't be surprised if there are more than few telescopes floating down there.

I just checked Astronomics, and they showed in stock.  I ordered one, with a field flattener.

Not yet, but I just exchanged an e-mail with them.  Apparently, the in-stock notice was an error in their computer system.

They also said that they are just awaiting the delivery truck to make it's way across the country.

Hopefully soon!

You know that the field flattener is made for the AT80EDT and not the AT80ED?  The AT80EDT is an f/6, the AT80ED is an f/7, so it has less of a need for a flattener anyway.  I don't know if the difference between f/6 and f/7 matters much, but hopefully it will work well for you.  Let us know, I'd buy one if it makes a visible difference in observing.

And have been for at least a week. They’ve been in transit for almost two months now. First transit post I remember was Nov 15 they were on the boat. This is a game for the patient.

Maybe we can organize a search and rescue team?:-)

I think that truck driver got side tracked at some casino or a strip club. The boat from China was faster because there were no distractions along the way!

Still waiting for the truck as of today.

Received this reply from Astronomics today:

“We don’t know exactly where the truck is but the shipment is on the way here at this time. Our receiver in Oklahoma City told us it is due in there around Monday.”

So should hopefully be hearing from them next week.
