Looking for thoughts.

I am trying to use a Byte3 mini PC at the telescope to remote in from my laptop via a travel router. The Byte3 was outside about 15 minutes in 23 degree temps while I setup. Once setup I powered on from a diehard jumpstart battery. But after about a minute it would just shut off.

I brought the Byte3 and battery inside for say 20 minutes and tried again. It powered up fine and I could remote in.

Anyone else have difficulties with PC systems not powering on in the cold? any workable suggestions?

I have a PrimaLuce Eagle 2 but have not actually used it.( wanted to work out my setup procedures first)

Thanks

Jeff

Sure its not the battery disliking the cold?

Also, jumpstart batteries arent good for running equipment for a length of time, so maybe it really wasnt happy?

True, something to check, although the mount was running fine off the same battery. Guess I could try running the Byte3 off AC in the cold just to see.

It's the power.  Computers don't really care about the cold.  There isn't anything in them that changes; if anything it should run better.

Your mount probably has a higher tolerance for voltage differences than the computer does.  Get a better battery.
