Thanks! And you definitely need to make an Okie Tex. It's by far some of the best skies you can find and one of the best star parties. If I can help it, I'll never miss another one.

Great job Will! waytogo.gif  Good drone work, night vision footage and oh yes the GRAVITY waves.  Okie-Tex 2019 went a long way towards making up for the Soakie-Tex 2018 deluge  snowedin.gif

Looking forward to 2020!

Awesome! Thanks Napp. I'm glad you enjoyed it. My main goal in making these is to inspire more people to do what we do. I figure if I just tell the story the rest will work itself out.

Will,

See ya taped the "Bomb Disposal Unit" and "Thermonuclear Viewing Device".  You do know that was your idea way back in 2017 right?

Is there a maximum total of attendees that are allowed? Has it ever been reached?

No maximum. Last year saw just over 500 registrants and there was room left on the field. If it goes much higher we would probably have to run the dining hall in shifts though.

Thanx. I guess I had last year's page stuck in my browser. One more question though. blahblah.gif  Last year's info said NOT to arrive before Saturday. Has that changed? Because the 11th is a Friday next year. scratchhead2.gif

Yes the 2020 calendar will be pushed back a day, with arrival on Friday and departure on the following Saturday, with the idea being that many people who stay to the end were leaving on Sunday and facing a long drive home before work on Monday.

I notice there is a "facility fee" for each day of $5. Is this collected in advance for the total number of days the star party runs? What if I attend for fewer days. If I do decide (probably) to attend for 3 or 4 days do I need to state this at registration or can I play it by ear according to the weather?

To be honest I'm not too sure about the facility fee. I've always stayed the entire time and paid the whole week. I believe it is paid in advance.

When you are registering the fee is added when you select the number of days you plan to attend.   I, like Will, attend all week so it runs like $40.  The facility fees are used to improve the site.  Past projects include power distribution improvements (no more brown outs), expanding the observing field, improving the restroom / shower facilities and the current project is construction of the new building to replace the big tent.  Money well spent!!!!!

The Okie-Tex site is owned by a local private foundation and is rented as a church camp for the rest of the year, though Okie-Tex is by far the largest tenant event. The facility fee is paid to the Camp Billy Joe organization by the OKC Astronomy Club for the daily census on site, as near as we can figure it. And yes virtually all of the improvements to the camp, including power, bathrooms and the new pavilion structure, are and have been funded by the OKCAC from Okie-Tex revenues, with the camp free to utilize them the rest of the year. We expect the completion of the building project to further cement that good relationship for many years to come as Okie-Tex continues to grow into one of the top star parties in the world.

I can't wait for the new building as well. This year I tried to document as much of that area as I could for posterity.

I'm not complaining about the fee. I'm on your side. I just wonder if it can be abused. If someone says they're only staying for a couple days but end up staying for a week. Sure, they could fess up and pay the extra fee but what if they don't? How do you collect in a case like that?
