A recent issue of IEEE Spctum (an electrical engineering professional journal) had an article about a member building a radio "telescope" to monitor 21cm emission. Interesting... as well as the references.

Thanks for the links to those articles-- I have a student who has been working on a similar project since this past October.  The one he is building is larger, but is still the same sort as being referred to in the articles.  He is using the same software and electronics as they are, but with a larger horn.
