I see most of the ETX series use a #497 Autostar hand control. I have a #494 Autostar hand control-but no meade scope to try it on. What scopes use the #494 Autostar hand control?   Thanks, Todd

Most of the lower end ETXs come with the 494. I think all the 60/70/80s did. Most of us upgrade them to 497s because it is a way better controller.

The 80 came with the 497.   I think the 60 and 70 used the 494.

And the DS and DS2000s would operate on the 494. Other "Autostar" models had code to prevent the 494 from communicating with the motor control boards. As the cost of producing two levels of hand controllers became more than just selling the 497 the 494 was allowed to die and the last DS2000s were sold only with the 497.

I have a 80 with the 497 and a 90 that came with the 494. I also have a DS-90 that came with the 497.

I have to find the way to get the 497 and ETX 90 to play together. I plug it in, it goes through the motor test, then stops at: "Use ETX autostar with this model".

That's a head scratcher. It won't go any further.

I imagine you already know about this, but it's not a firmware update issue is it?

Also, if anybody has a 497 controller they want to unload cheap, I might be your buyer. I would even be interested in one that isn't working right but the display works OK since that's apparently what I need.

I don't know offhand what version is on them. I can't get to the menu. Just the ETX warning. Both do work.

I wonder if there is a magic button push when you turn it on.

They are versions DX-90 12ec and ETX-90 is13ea.

I understand you need the #506 cable to update them, but it's no longer avail. The #505 is.
