I was never the artistic kind and I suffer from attention deficit disorder for my entire life.
Astronomy is one of the few activities that manage to keep me hooked and wonder how the night ends so quickly.
To better log and share my views, I decided to give sketching a try, and hell, I love it!
My technique needs improvement, star brightness and distances needs to be more accurate, but with time I will improve on those.
My first two sketches, taken on Dec 30 2019, Scope: NMT 20"/F3.3
Seeing was not best and the observation site was not the darkest. I do plan on sketching these objects again from a better location.
It will take me some time before trying to sketch nebulae and galaxies, one challenge at a time.
My telescope does not have any tracking, but moves so smoothly, I had no trouble to keep track manually for the sketch duration.
Some points given by friends:
- Add date to the sketches (...)
- Written details needs to be more readable
- Text needs to be smaller
- Add hours on the circle (12, 3, 6, 9) for better star positioning
My setup for that night, light pollution clearly visible:
