I see you have an equatorial mount.   It has been my experience that newbies sometimes have problems learning to align and use an equatorial mount.  Since you had problems with aligning the finder I am wondering if you are also having problems using the mount.

 

 

Are you doing a polar alignment when you start your observing session?  This is the way an equatorial, EQ, mount is intended to be used.

If you find doing a polar alignment inconvenient or too complex, some EQ mounts can be used in AltAz mode so that they work like a camera tripod.
