I found this in the desert of New Mexico, Alamogordo NM area, about 20 years ago. I picked it up in the middle of a vast sandy area with no other rocks in the vicinity. I thought it peculiar that it had a Black shiny crust on the front of lt at the time, so I chucked it in truck, put it in my work shed, and lost track of it for many years.  Last week, I found it and decided to find out what it is, but to no avail. I do know that it is very heavy, does not  attract a magnet.and when put to the grinder it smells like burnt gunpowder.  Hope you all can see the pictures and help me identify this rock, Thank You.

will be interested to see what the experts have to say about it.  I know squat about meteors but would love to find one.  I hope it is.  Interesting about the burnt gunpowder smell.  I wonder if the gurus can comment on that.

You might want to contact the UNM Institute of Meteoritics in Albuquerque and see if someone might be able to look at the photos.  Here is their contact info: http://meteorite.unm.edu/contact/

I'll try them and see if they will. Most people don't deal with public no more from what I have heard.
