Desertstars and others...

What will the U. S. Space Force mean for amateur astronomers and sci-fi writers?

I haven't read up on this too much, but as retired Air Force, I don't expect much difference for most of us.  The only real changes I see are the Space Force taking over the responsibility and control of "space" missions from the Air Force, leaving the AF to concentrate on its primary missions of Air Superiority and Defense.  This is very much the same as in 1947 when the govt setup the AF separate from the Army.  I see this as a logical move and honestly don't see much overall change though, despite all the ridicule that's been put forth in the news and social media.

I noticed the first uniforms for the Space Force were desert camouflage (!!).

That will make the uniforms true collectors items when the next president disbands the Space Force.

In all fairness though, Tatooine is a desert planet.

Looks like regular camo, not desert (which would be primarily tan/brown):

The article mentions the choices as being one of cost saving, since they are already used by other branches of the military.  All snarkiness aside, it sounds like a reasonable choice.

I can't say that I'm a fan of creating a new branch.  However, my point was why squander money designing a new uniform when existing ones will serve.

The equipment they use and run might be in space, but the people that run them are on terra firma.
