I have not been able to get CFM to run on my HP Laptop which is running Windows 10.  I have another laptop which is an ASUS with Windows 10 and it works just fine.  When I try to start up CFM on the HP Laptop,  I just quick a black box that disappears with no messages.  I have the CFM jar file out of the downloaded zipped file when I try this.  I have downloaded Java and I show it's installed.  I even got the Geek Squad from Best Buy to remote in and try to get it to work but they gave up.

For now as a backup, I am just going to use my ASUS laptop to update my CGX and Evolution Mounts to keep the firmware current but I would like to get the problem resolved on my HP Laptop.

Anybody else run into this problem?

Look into your Firewall & Network Protection settings.

The 2 problems I initially had when I used CFM (Celestron Firmware Manager) for the first time a couple of days ago were 1. It will only run after the package has been unzipped and 2. I needed to download & install the driver for the USB / Serial chipset used in the Starsense handset.

Double check that you have Java enabled.

CFM (?)

The software from Celestron that updates the firmware on your mount.

Mike,

I ran regedit and erased all the Java variables that were stored in the jar file then re-installed Java.  I was almost ready to give but found something on google.  I did not have any troubles with my other laptop.

Ah yes.  Back when I was supporting desktop computers on a large network, every time there was a Java update, we ran the uninstaller/cleaner from Oracle first for just that reason.  It removed all the registry entries that sometimes caused issues.
