Aspiring artists have always had a pet subject that they would sketch over and over to help improve their technique. If ever there was stellar test piece, M42 is it IMO. I can never go past it without stopping to have a look and marveling at the delicate blues and red outer fringes of the massed tendrils which make up this astounding object. This time, I re-drew it - perhaps I could have used a lower power, but I kinda like the way it disappears out of the frame....

Very nice sketch! I agree with you as far as magnification power. There's just something epic about M42 when it fills the view!
