The forecast last night was for partly cloudy skies, so I took the gamble, set up, all polar and multi-star aligned - now for my target, clouded over, of course! Not to be deterred and because it was a humid night and sitting outside was pleasantly cooler, I decided to wait. Sketching DSOs usually demands more than the odd suckerhole, so it was quite a long wait....At 11:30pm, the skies magically cleared, so here is my sketch of ngc2301 "Hagrid's Dragon" cluster. A favorite of my daughter, when she was 10, who was reading the Harry Potter series and still, quite stunning:
Only the main stars are drawn here, with a skiff of nebulosity seen.
