I've checked, in fact shipping costs from the seller to me are 5€ , so 40€...at that price i booked it. So many friends looking for it. If you are interested you have priority (around 55€ shipped to you), otherwise it will make happy friends here in Paris

PM incoming!

The family got large, fast! Inexplicably lol.gif

V2K9aWdh.jpg

I've yet to use them all (!) but I love them especially for lunar, planets and doubles. Special mention for the 40 – which I did not really plan on buying but is an extraordinarily sharp and clean eyepiece, and gave me one of my best views ever of the lunar full disk and earthshine.

Now I'm done buying … unless, that is, an 18 pops up. I do not think my poor heart could resist that grin.gif

I had the chance to compare a modern Skywatcher 6mm wide field (58*) with my 6mm LV in the ST 120 the other night on the moon… the SW is nice for a budget ep, but the LV blew it out of the water.

It also made most of the CA magically disappear.

I’ve been comparing them to my newly acquired Televues on the Moon: 20mm vs Pan19, 9mm vs Nagler 9mm. Seeing was not good so… but FWIW, apart from the obvious difference in FoV, the LVs put up an equally compelling view, and were slightly more comfortable to use. Great eyepieces!

I'm just back in from a quick session on Jupiter (with Europa in transit), Moon and Mars. What can I say? The LVs are great and I've become so accustomed to them that I barely notice anymore. I like my Pans and Nags more, granted, but the LVs put up great views, are as comfortable as old slippers and they come in so many sizes that you're sure to find the best magnification for the night… I love 'em and would buy them all over again if anything befell them (God forbid…)

How does the LV make CA disappear?

Smaller field of view, (45 AFOV) possibly, but its also made of superior glass & has better coatings.

A few months ago, I sold a 5mm and a 6mm, due to redundancies and at that point I thought I would not own another one in the future. Until recently I had the opportunity to buy the 15mm. It is redundant as well but I have used it on a couple of nights, both at its native focal length and in a barlow and I have to say I appreciate it a lot. At the end of the day, the AFOV is very similar to that of the highly regarded pseudo Masuyamas but with the advantage of a very convenient eye relief. When I sold the 12.5mm that was my main issue with it, I sure would have kept it had it had 20mm of it.

Yeah, I had the same impression, that the Vixen LV's reduce CA . So, I like to use them regularly with my refractors (Apochromates and achromats. But these eyepieces show also superior performance with my 5" Maksutov and my Celestron SC's.

Smaller FOV would not be a factor .

Less divergence of image might be.

There are claims that certain older desgn eyepiece seem to "correct" CA;possibly those eyepices just happen to be early "Chromacorr" by accident.

Yep, I’m not sure about why, but I’d guess it’s just superior glass and coatings. Note that I said ‘most’.

I'm praying for a night of good seeing, there's a lot of fine detail up there to be seen right now, but so far all I had was muck and my shortest used with any profit was the 9 undecided.gif

Yeah, I had the same impression, that the Vixen LV's reduce CA

That's because LV eyepieces contain lanthanum, which is used in similar eyepieces and refractor mating elements to reduce chromatic abberation.

Hi again,

So 10 inch x f/6 gives 60 inch. That gives 1,524 mm focal length divided by 2.5 mm gives 609.6 power. That would require excellent seeing. I would start with the 6mm then 5mm then 4mm and finally 2.5mm.

Best,

Ed

Always start with a 32mm then jump to a 7 and on down and i get many dead still nites.

I just bought the LV 25mm. Not that I really needed it but just to check how these optics are and will do.

I understand that the optics of the LVs are the same as the SLVs.

I have seen that the writings on the LVs have different colors. Does someone know why is that?

They were manufactured in batches at different times and the font size and color changed. The small font with white lettering was the first one, the big, thin white font the very last one (if I remember correctly)
